Overdrive Pedals

The motivation for every pedal I build begins with my desire for a specific tone.  A guitarist's overdrive sound is nearly as personal as their choice of guitar and amp.  As a result there are a LOT of overdrive pedals out there, and I've tried many of them. Here are two designs that I have created that get me closer to that elusive sound in my head.  Both are relatively simple circuits, leaving your original guitar tone intact with very little coloration.  You won't hear any Tube Screamer style "mid hump" or low cut with any of these pedals!

Scorched Earth  This pedal is a highly versatile boost and overdrive.  With the gain at or below 12 o'clock it adds very little color, just giving you  a warm boost with plenty of additional volume available. Turn the gain past noon though and things start to happen.  At first it just gets what I describe as "brown" sounding.  It's like your amp has warmed up and some high overtones become more apparent.  It sounds  like your amp has been turned up but you don't have to add volume to get that tone.  Crank the gain even more and you get into smooth overdrive territory.

For a limited time the Scorched Earth graphic is a piece of an old map decal.  Each pedal will be completely unique!

MooseDrive  This tiny box packs a big punch!  The MooseDrive is a low to medium gain overdrive with just a hint of sparkle on the top end, reminiscent of some of those great old British EL84 tones.  Otherwise, the tone is remarkably transparent!  I've kept this circuit as simple as possible to preserve your guitar's original tone.  As a result there is not a lot of volume boost with pedal, but it will get louder than unity gain.  Add a tone control for even more flexibility.
